Easy Ideas for Kitchen Sustainability

Easy Ideas for Kitchen Sustainability

Must-have planet-friendly items for your kitchen!

Un-paper towels

This is a concept that may sound more far-fetched than it actually is. After all, we break out cloth napkins for holidays and special events. Why not use "un-paper" towels on a daily basis? There are many print options available, and many brands work well with your paper towel holder for more convenience!

Reusable food storage bags

Ditch single-use plastic storage bags with these reusable bags. These last so long, they easily pay for themselves! Not only that, but they are more versatile than their single-use counterparts. Food-safe silicone bags are dishwasher-safe, freezer friendly, and you can even cook in them in the microwave, via sous vide, or steaming. We use ours daily for lunches and snacks on the go.

Reusable silicone baking cups Not only do these eliminate the need for paper cupcake liners, but you can do away with the muffin pan entirely as they're free-standing. We put them directly in the air fryer, which wouldn't be possible with a muffin tin!

They are multi-purpose as well: we use them to hold condiments and as lunchbox dividers. There are lots of colors and even fun shapes available!

Reusable K Cups If you're a Keurig fan, look into reusable cups! Not only will you save money (those K-cups are expensive!) but you'll keep plastic from landfills. I like the idea of single-serve brewing but don't love the idea of heating plastic to brew my morning coffee! These are a perfect solution, so we bought reusables for the office.

Bamboo Cooking Utensils

Speaking of plastics, when I learned of the potentially harmful impacts of plastics, especially when coming in contact with hot food, I bought bamboo cooking utensils instead. Not only is this a better choice for our family's health, but bamboo is a renewable resource that grows much faster than wood.

Thanks for learning more about green kitchen products with us! What items have you found to be helpful in making your kitchen more healthy and sustainable?
